Our History

The staff at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home has over 60 years of service in the funeral industry.  We are dedicated to the caring service your family deserves. 


Our Valued Staff

Steve Hines

Steve Hines, Funeral Director, Embalmer and Owner

Steve attended Spoon River College in Canton before graduating from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago in 1986. He worked for Grien Funeral Directors in Chicago before returning to work with his father, Maurie Hines, in 1990 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home. He married Tish Breason in 1991 and have raised 2 children, Alex and Sam. He has been active in numerous community organizations including, Canton Chamber of Commerce Ambassador's Club, YMCA Tumbling Tornados, the building and maintenance of the current JFL fields and avid supporter of KARE and Fulton County Rehabilitation Center.
Steve became a Fulton County Coroner's Deputy in 1993 and later became the coroner in 1999. He continues to serve the citizens of Fulton County in that capacity.
Upon the retirement of Bob Patterson, Steve brought his experience and staff to Elmwood with the purchase of Patterson Funeral Home in 2006.

Jed Rhoades

Jed Rhoades, Funeral Director, Embalmer, CPC

Jed is a native of Astoria and graduated from Astoria High School in 1999. He graduated as Valedictorian of his class in September of 2009, from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Chicago. In October, 2015, Jed completed training through the National Funeral Director's Association, earning his designation as a Certified Preplanning Consultant. Prior to entering the funeral service, he worked as a Paramedic Supervisor for Fulton County Emergency Medical Association in Canton for 6 years.
Jed and his wife, Haily, have two children, Will and Eli. In addition to his work at the funeral home, Jed also serves as a Deputy with the Fulton County Coroner's Office and is a real estate broker. Outside of work, he enjoys traveling, the outdoors, and spending time at his cabin.


Darryl Schrodt

Darryl Schrodt, Funeral Director, Embalmer

Darryl was born on October 10, 1964 in Canton. He is the son of Bill and Diane (Fouts) Schrodt. Darryl graduated from Canton High School in 1982, attended Spoon River College, and graduated from SIU-C in 1984. Darryl and his wife Kim have lived in Canton since they were married in 1984 and have raised three children; Amanda, Derek, and Cole. Darryl has been very active in the community coaching baseball and football, and member of Canton Booster Club, and First Christian Church. Darryl has served the Canton community for over 30 years.


Deborah Rushing-Glenn

Deborah Rushing-Glenn, Funeral Director, Embalmer

Deborah Rushing-Glenn is a native of Elmwood, Illinois. After high school, Deborah completed her degree in psychology at the University of Illinois at Chicago. She later received her degree in mortuary science at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg. Married to Jacob Glenn, the pharmacy manager at Walgreen’s in Canton, she has four children: Melody, Matthew, Andrea, and Austin. In addition to funeral directing, Deborah also teaches piano and voice and is active in the Elmwood United Methodist Church. For fun, she enjoys exercising, baking, knitting, and staying involved in all of her children’s activities.


Sam Hines

Sam Hines, Funeral Director, Embalmer Apprentice

Sam was born and raised in Canton. He graduated from Canton High School in 2013 and attended Spoon River College. He graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 2015 and is currently serving his internship at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home. He was involved in football program in high school and currently living in Brereton. He enjoys Hunting and fishing in his free time.
